Gumie brings a unique combination of education, community services and counselling experience to her work supporting children's emotional wellbeing.
"Every child has strengths. Sometimes they just need someone to help them see them."
With a Bachelor of Psychology, separate qualifications in Community Services and Counselling, Gumie also has extensive experience working with children who have come from a traumatic background. With this broad understanding of children's development, behaviour, and individual needs she provides compassion, understanding and professional support.
Her extensive experience supporting children and families affected by trauma, family violence, separation, change and other challenging life experiences has shaped her compassionate and trauma-informed approach.
Gumie uses child-centred, strengths-based and trauma-informed practices, helping children recognise their strengths, understand their emotions, build confidence and develop practical skills to manage challenges.
She believes every child has strengths and capabilities that can be nurtured. Her approach is to create a safe, respectful and supportive space where children can feel heard, understood and empowered to develop their own skills and solutions.
At Shine & Thrive, Gumie brings together her experience in education, psychology, community services and counselling to support children to build emotional wellbeing, resilience, confidence and positive relationships at home, at school and in their wider community.
Gumie's approach is child-centred and trauma-informed, shaped by years of supporting children and families through challenging circumstances.
